The Future of Workplace Communication

Leveling up Professionals Through Communication Training

Workplaces are starting to understand the impact of communication on their employees quality of life, their efficiency, and overall productivity. Here are some stats pulled from American corporations and publications:

The good news?

Communication is a behaviour. That means with a deeper and more confident understanding, we can learn how to make the best choices for ourselves and those we are communicating with. This is why we developed our approach to working with adults on their communication for whatever profession they are in.

Think back. When did you learn to communicate?

Although we learn vocabulary and sentence structure- it is rare for us to understand how these can get us what we want out of an interaction. Furthermore, we often learn how to communicate through a lens of exclusion or societal expectations. This means that we are told what we can’t say more than what we can. We are told how “not to behave” or what words and behaviours to avoid- depending on our environment. This means, that we often enter more challenging situations knowing what tools we can’t use and not what tools we can use.

The result?

Our confidence drops. We develop inauthentic communication behaviours as we are forced into more of a “survival” mode at work. We start communicating differently with our managers, our colleagues, and we notice this starts to impact how they interact with us.

So when do we learn how to say what we want, to get what we want, in a way that remains true to our intention and can work in any situation?

That’s where we come in.

As speech-language pathologists who are passionate about working with adults on their communication, we understand communication behaviour. We understand how to connect intention to the words, tone, and expression so that regardless of who someone is talking to, they can feel confident that they have the skills to make the most out of that interaction.

We started seeing great success in working one-on-one with our clients in areas like assertiveness, negotiations, small talk and networking, conflict resolution, managing teams, presentation skills, and more. So we have developed our personalized Workplace Communication workshops that we can tailor to the needs of any professionals in their workplace. We have seen this work help our clients get more of what they want out of their profession, increase their impact, improve their professional relationships, and increase their overall confidence in their profession.

The added benefit of our workshops beyond the one-on-one work, is that they bring a team together and allow everyone to be on the same page with their communication. With more people understanding their communication and how to use it more effectively, there can be a greater impact on the company as a whole. We often see an amazing blend of employees from every responsibility level and background- managers, directors, CEOs- and have experienced the impact this can have on a workplace environment.
