Online sessions at Toronto Adult Speech Clinic

Let us meet you wherever you are, whenever you’re ready.

Online Sessions with a Speech-Language Pathologist from anywhere in Ontario

Toronto Adult Speech Clinic was built on the philosophy that every adult should have access to the speech therapy, voice therapy, and communication training that they need. It is important to us that we accommodate the busy schedules and unique needs of our adult clients. Since opening, our clinic has offered virtual care options for our clients to get the support and assistance they need from a registered speech-language pathologist even when their busy schedules cannot accommodate in-person sessions.

Speech therapy is covered by most health benefit plans, so you can check to see if your plan can help you achieve your communication goals.

Through this online platform, we offer all of our regular services as well as our consulting services for businesses looking to develop the communication skills of their teams in areas of fitness, the arts, education, marketing/advertising, sales, management, and so many more. Communication has become an essential part of nearly every career, and TASC has adapted our professional training services to be able to accommodate you and your team- even on the busiest schedule.

At TASC we use the Doxy.me platform for our virtual care services, which complies with PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act) and PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) requirements in order to provide a safe and secure option for our clients.

If you have questions or concerns about this option, feel free to contact us or check out more information for patients/clients who use Doxy.me around the world here.

Common Questions About Virtual Care at TASC

Is virtual care the same as telepractice or telemedicine?

Absolutely. Under recommendations from CASLPO (the regulatory body for speech-language pathologists and audiologists in Ontario), the term virtual care is considered a more up-to-date and descriptive label for the online services we provide.

Can I receive virtual care from TASC if I live outside of Ontario, Canada?

Due to regulations by the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), our speech-language pathologists are not able to see clients who reside outside of Ontario. The exceptions to this rule are i) if a client resides in a place that does not have its own regulatory body or ii) if a client is visiting or temporarily residing in Ontario (for vacation, work, etc.).

Do I have to download or sign-up for virtual care?

No downloads or subscriptions required! This ensures your safety and protects your personal information. Clients who choose virtual care as an option receive a link to a digital waiting room. At the time of your appointment, your clinician will start your secure online session.

How do I book a virtual care appointment?

Follow the same process as you would for booking in-person appointments. Visit tasc.janeapp.com and select 30- or 45-minute virtual care appointment and find a time that is convenient for you.

How do I get to my virtual care appointment?

You can access the waiting room at the time of your appointment by following the link above or by clicking here: tasc.doxy.me and select your clinician to get to their personal waiting room.

What do I do once I get to the online waiting room?

You will be prompted to let your clinician know you are there by typing in your name. Please consider sharing your pronouns with your name. You will also have an opportunity to make sure you adjust lighting and volume on your computer prior to starting your appointment. Then, all you have to do is wait for the time of your appointment and your clinician will start the session.

Are the prices different for a virtual care appointment?

No. All prices for appointments remain the same. If you have questions about the prices for appointments, please contact us.

Do I need any special equipment for a virtual care appointment?

All you need is an internet connection and a computer/laptop/mobile device with a camera and microphone.

How is speech, voice, or communication training different over virtual care compared to in person?

At Toronto Adult Speech Clinic, we aim to make your experience as similar to an in-person session as possible. Through our secure platform, we continue to provide a safe space for sessions with the opportunity to share documents, photos, and even use screensharing to enhance our clients' experiences.

Can I work on any goal with virtual care?

With the advancement in technology, it has become easier to conduct these kind of sessions online. As long as you have tested your audio and video quality, most goals can be effectively worked on using virtual care. If you aren't sure if it is the right option for you, reach out to the clinic or your clinician to have a conversation before booking your session. For a full list of the services we offer, please click here.

Are sessions recorded?

Never. Part of the security of the doxy.me platform that is different from some other platforms is that it does not store or record any personal information (notice how you do not need to "sign-up" or "subscribe" to anything to use this platform). That also means that the session is never "stored" anywhere. The video stream is simply encoded and exchanged in real-time between client and clinician devices securely. If you would like to record part of your session to help you with your practice between sessions, please discuss this with your clinician

Considering current health recommendations regarding COVID-19, should all sessions be done using virtual care?

Currently, at Toronto Adult Speech Clinic, we are not conducting any sessions in person for the safety of our clients and clinicians. All sessions are being conducted online until further notice. We are keeping track of those clients who would eventually like to start working in person with a speech therapist and will contact you once we start to offer in person sessions again.
